BIOGRAPHY

Verónica Urrego is a Venezuelan violinist, orchestral conductor, and music educator with extensive experience in performance, conducting, and instrumental teaching. 

Verónica began her professional career in Venezuela, performing with orchestras including the Falcón Symphony Orchestra and the Zulia Symphony Orchestra, where she served as Principal of the Second Violins and later as Orchestra Leader and Assistant Conductor. 

She also performed as a member of the Scherzo String Quartet and has appeared as a soloist with ensembles including the Zulia Symphony Orchestra, Falcón Symphony Orchestra, Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela, Haffner Orchestra, Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra, and the Simón Bolívar Concert Band of Maracaibo.

Alongside her performing career, Verónica has developed a strong commitment to music education and youth orchestral development. She has worked as a violin and string tutor at El Sistema, Venezuela and the “José Luis Paz” Conservatoire in Zulia. Since moving into her current professional work in the UK, she has served as a String Tutor with Sistema Scotland, the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain, and the Benedetti Foundation.

Verónica’s conducting career has developed alongside her work as a performer and educator. She has conducted the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland since 2024 and has worked with the National Children’s Orchestras of Great Britain. She has also been involved with Music Generation Ireland, Edinburgh Youth Orchestra and Derby and Derbyshire Schools Orchestras.

Her academic background reflects her particular interest in music education and conducting. She holds a Master’s in Education in Learning and Teaching in the Performing Arts from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, she also holds a BMus (Hons) with a major in Violin Performance from the University Institute of Musical Studies in Venezuela.

Verónica has continued to develop her conducting practice through specialist professional training, including The George Hurst Conductors’ Course and the RNCM Conducting Course for Music Educators. Her earlier musical development included international study at the XII International Music Course at the “MATISSE” School of Music in Madrid and a Violin Summer Course and Chamber Music programme at the Academia Latinoamericana de Violín in Venezuela.

Her achievements include recognition for her violin performance, including awards at the “VIOLINISIMO” cycles of violinists of the Zulia Symphony Orchestra and an award for Best Interpretation of Spanish Music at the “MATISSE” School of Music in Madrid.
